Matt TenBroek

My journey.

Matt TenBroek is a professional woodwind doubler and innovative content creator based in Minnesota, who is currently in his final year at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Matt’s musical journey began with a dedication to drumming, a pursuit he immersed himself in for six years before discovering the saxophone. Introduced to the instrument by a friend who was an amazing tenor saxophonist, Matt quickly found a deep connection with the saxophone, which has since become his primary woodwind. His early exposure to jazz legends like John Coltrane, Stan Getz, and Joshua Redman significantly shaped his artistic development, fueling his passion for saxophone-led jazz music.

After a year at Concordia Moorhead, Matt transferred to Eau Claire seeking a more competitive environment where he could grow alongside other talented musicians. At Eau Claire, he encountered a gap in formal education tailored specifically for jazz—an area he was keenly interested in. This led him to devise a unique educational path, combining advertising, arts administration, and a minor in general music. This “do-it-yourself” degree reflects his commitment to merging his love for music with a strategic approach to modern marketing and social media.

Matt’s expertise and passion for the saxophone are complemented by his versatility in other woodwinds. However, the saxophone remains at the heart of his musical expression. His repertoire spans Jazz, Funk, R&B, Broadway, and various jazz-adjacent styles such as Afro-Cuban, Fusion, and Bossa Nova. His proficiency in these genres is showcased through numerous online collaborations, which he invites his audience to explore on his social media channels. What began as a personal project to document his practice and growth, has evolved into a substantial platform with over 50,000 followers on various mediums. Matt’s commitment to content creation is evident in his disciplined approach, consistently posting up to two pieces of content daily across his platforms.

In addition to his online presence, Matt plays a crucial role in supporting the arts within his community. He first became involved with the Clearwater Jazz and Art Festival as a student liaison, where he promoted the event among fellow students and engaged with the jazz faculty. His talent for content creation was recognized, leading to his appointment as the festival’s full-time content manager. In this role, Matt has significantly contributed to the festival’s success, leveraging his skills to enhance community engagement and promote the arts with a combined 1,000 followers for the festival on Facebook and Instagram

As he looks to the future, Matt is enthusiastic about continuing to blend his musical talents with his business passion. His aspirations include further developing his presence in the music and content creation spheres, exploring new opportunities, and making a lasting impact in the industry. Matt remains dedicated to sharing his passion for music and connecting with audiences on a deeper level. He is always looking for further collaborations, new partnerships, and new connections. Feel free to reach out to Matt through his email, or through any of the various social media platforms linked within this website.
